A few weeks ago, I dwell into Dreamcatcher’s discography, and I believed either DPR Ian or SKZ were going to be my next deep dive. Since Don’t Go Insane has been living in my head rent free since it came out, I had to go with the former.
One thing you have to know about me is that my expectation for soloists’ discographies are much higher than boy/girl groups. Not only because it’s one person and it’s interesting to see how much they carry themselves, but because the music I listen from them is nothing but absolute bangers on top of bangers!
And DPR IAN?! Oh my fucking God, I-😩
This could be an unpopular opinion right now since artists are gearing towards brighter concepts again, but I LOVE dark and sultry music. Taemin, Wonho, Irene & Seulgi, Purple Kiss, WJSN The Black, you name it. Insert that shit into my veins and don’t worry about my health afterwards. DPR Ian is perfect for me - love on first listen! I guess it helps since his music is more K-R&B than pop, so there’s more opportunities to work with that kind of sound.
Outside of Don’t Go Insane, I haven’t watched any MVs from him, but just listening to the music, I can tell he puts 100% into his craft. One of my favorite parts he does in his songs is when he “manipulates” his voice into a darker, sinister tone, like there’s two people in one.
I know the phrase “flawless/no-skip discography” is used too loosely in the K-Pop community, but DPR Ian is the one where I can confidently say that his music is talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, you know the rest…
And as someone loves Kang Daniel’s music to death, DPR Ian’s discography is like taking his Yellow and Realiez album and expand them even further. Matter of fact, DPR Ian and KD do sound similar in some instances, but the former has a more “cursive” way of singing, if that makes sense?

Conclusion:
If you’re gonna listen to DPR Ian’s music, please listen to it with headphones for the first time, especially MITO, it’s definitely an experience!

At some point, I’ll take a listen to the Archives album, but right now, I think I should direct my attention to Stray Kids’ music and catch up on some new releases! I already listened to ROCK-STAR, and I gotta say MEGAVERSE >>>
